How to Incorporate Travel into your Home Decor Successfully!

If your like me, you aren’t a full time traveler but want to find a way to be reminded of your adventures everyday. Filling your home with your travel memories can bring joy and personality to a space. Below are my tips for incorporating your travels into your home without being cliche or cheesy ;).

Photo Prints-With all our photos stored on our phones or “in the cloud” having a physical print out of your adventures can be a nice keepsake. Over the years I’ve found that printing from a place like Target can be a cheap and great way to spice up your space. I like to print square 8x8 photos and hang them in a gallery wall. Perfect for printing out Instagrams, Target will let you either pick up in store or deliver them to your house. Those prints need some frames! Finding square frames is not always easy but I found that Tiny Mighty Frames” from Amazon are amazing and come in a variety of sizes and colors! They also come with mattes that you can either use or remove. Perfect for making a gallery wall of your own photos!

Shadow boxes-I am somewhat of a hoarder, I keep every ticket stub, business card, menu, etc from my adventures. However, living in a tiny apartment in Los Angeles I had to figure out a way to store my trinkets in a functional and decor manner, enter shadow boxes. I was able to buy cheap wood shadow boxes from Amazon grabbed some colored paint and then painted the name of the place on the outside rim. This keeps your memories safe and allows you to store everything in one place. Perfect for adding color to a otherwise boring bookshelf or credenza!

City Maps-Great by themselves or in a set, map posters are a great way to pay homage to the places you’ve been or mean the most to you! These posters make great gifts, you can even customize the exact address you want printed on the map! Check out Mapiful to create your custom maps!

Photo books-Like I said before it makes me sad that all our photos are trapped in our phones. Having a cute coffee table book makes for a great conversation starter! I personally love Chatbooks! You can create a one time one off book or a photo series book collection where they will send you a book every 60 photos you upload or connect to Instagram. I signed up for the rainbow series to add pops of colors to my shelves!

Homewares from your trips-Forgo the touristy souvenirs like shot glasses and bottle openers and find something more local. Ceramics from Italy, a pouf from Morocco, you name it the list goes on and on. Not only will these items add a unique look to your space they will remind you of your trip everyday. Be sure when purchases goods abroad to purchase high quality items from local vendors. Don’t be afraid to ask locals where they buy things from. Also ask how much you should pay for things (as to not get ripped off). My motto is bring half the clothes with you and twice the money!
