3-5 Hour Drive

San Luis Obispo, CA

Located in Central California San Luis Obispo or SLO has been voted one of the Happiest Places in America. There are a ton of wineries as well as breweries to stop in and check out on the main street. SLO also has its own gum wall (I can’t decide if I love or hate this). There are also tons of small boutiques in downtown SLO. Be sure to grab a tri-tip sandwich at Old San Luis BBQ or Firestone Grill. SLO is extremely close to world-class wine as well, go for a tasting in either the Edna Valley or Paso Robles. Be sure to check out the nearby Madonna Inn (if you plan in advance you might even be able to score a room there)

Tijuana, Mexico

Looking to cross the border for a weekend adventure? Two and a half hours from Los Angeles is Tijuana. Pack your passport and prepare yourself for delicious street tacos, and cheap drinks! The best move is to park your car in a garage in San Diego and take an Uber to the border and walk across. Visit Avenida Revolución - the famous tourist street. My favorite spot to grab a drink or some food is the Telefonica Gastro Park which has both indoor and outdoor food stalls and bar areas. Track down Oso Campo’s Tras Horizonte for street culture food with a pro’s touch. Also, did you know that the Caesar salad was created in Tijuana? Check out Caesar’s Restaurant to try the original Many of Tijuana’s best bars, restaurants, and shops are on this street. Stroll down Blvd. Benito Juarez-The main downtown area in Rosarito is located on Blvd. Benito Juárez. Take a stroll down this lively street and you’ll find all sorts of great restaurants, bars, shops, hotels, and galleries. Bonus: Visit Popotla a small fishing village not even 5 miles south of Rosarito. Take a drive down there to enjoy a delicious seafood meal overlooking the ocean. If you go in the morning you can grab fish from one of the fishermen and have one of the beachside restaurants will cook it for you!

Valle De Guadalupe, Mexico

Four hours from Los Angeles is one of my favorite weekend getaways. Visiting Valle De Guadalupe or better known as Mexico’s Napa. Be sure to stop at Bura Bar at Cuatros Cuatros For Sunset Drinks-Who doesn’t love a good sunset? Make a reservation here as it is extremely popular. Also, hire a guide or tour so you don’t need to rent a car. I personally recommend Club Tengo Hambre, it’s like going wine tasting with a group of strangers turned friends (and you don’t have to drive). They take you to a variety of wineries from small family-owned to larger vineyards. If you are looking for unique accommodations? stay in a bubble at the Campera Hotel.
