Perfect Long Weekend In Seattle
Traveling up to Seattle was something I always wanted to do. Try to take an early flight if you can so you have plenty of time to explore. My advice to you would be to stay as close to downtown as possible so you can take the light rail from the airport. Seattle was one of the first places I experienced extreme lows and made my first diabetic supply run.
Day 1
After checking in to your hotel head down to the infamous (and definitely not overrated, I swear) Pike Market. With plenty over food options, you can’t go wrong. We chose a random local seafood restaurant and it was a perfect introduction to the area. Grab some flowers from a local vendor and take a walk down a few floors towards the water where you will have some of the most incredible views of the Ferris wheel and water. Make sure to snap a pic by the infamous gum wall as well.
After cruising around to Seattle’s most popular tourist destinations we went back to the hotel and freshened up for a bit. When I got out of the shower I noticed my CGM (my Dexcom G6) was alerting me that my blood sugar had dropped down to 40 and was continuing to drop. Queue panic mode. For the first time in my life I was experience dangerous lows and I didn’t know what to do. Surprisingly, I did not feel any different but thanks to my G6 I knew we needed to act fast. Luckily, my boyfriend remained calm, called the concierge and they brought up all of the juices I could have imagines (shout out to the W in downtown Seattle). In the mean time, my boyfriend had grabbed $12 W branded gummy bears and forced me to eat them. Safe to say after that experience I never leave anywhere without my glucose tablets and glucose drink.
If you are feeling up to it (and we were) going to the Chihuly Garden and Glass Museum. Pictures don’t do it justice, I recommend going after 6pm (for 50% off ) and less crowded (better for all the amazing photos you are going to take). Visiting the Chihuly museum takes about an hour and can easily be done before your dinner reservation. While the museum is right next to the Space Needle, I recommend skipping it completely (more of that later).
Located in the Capital Hill area I HIGHLY recommend Mamnoon. Mamnoon is Lebanese food and the perfect way to end your first day in Seattle. Having never had middle eastern food before my boyfriend and I had our waitress guide us through the menu of small plates and larger dishes. Typically, we are carnivores but our waitress convinced us to get a Summer Squash dish. Safe to say we did not miss meat and this delicious was one of the best things we had ever tasted! Mamnoon has plenty of health, and diabetic friendly options, be sure to share any restrictions with your waiter they will be sure to help you out.
Day 2
For breakfast visit Stateside. Delicious Vietnamese breakfast! Across from Stateside, you will find the Starbucks reserve roastery and tasting room. Order a tasting flight and enjoy some of Starbuck’s most unique roasts. Check out the brunch menu here so you can decide what you want before going!
Afterward I recommend heading about a mile over to the Museum of Pop Culture. If you can check out the Marvel exhibit. Filled with everything from interesting historical facts about comics to costumes worn in superhero moves such as Spiderman, Black Panther, Ironman and more. They also have an awesome Sound Lab where museum-goers can learn different types of instruments.
Take a break before heading to dinner. Head down to the dock and check out the Ferris wheel, aquarium, and other various shops and stands. Afterward head to Japonessa, one of Seattle’s best sushi restaurants. Order some of their more interesting rolls (trust me you won’t regret it). We had one that combined tropical flavors with salmon and it did not disappoint. Looking for somewhere to drink? Head to Unicorn! This LGBT friendly bar has loads of different drinks and if you are still hungry plenty of “State fair” or circus food as I call it.
Day 3
I definitely had to take an extra glipizide for this one. but let me tell you it was worth it. Head to Biscuit B*tch bright and early to beat the crowds. We got the BITCHWICH and biscuits and gravy. Let me tell you if you are into flavor and spices I recommended the biscuits and gravy over the sandwich. The sandwich was a bit dry for our taste buds but who knows maybe you’re into that kind of thing.
After breakfast, I recommend going on a food tour through Savory Seattle. Their expert guides take you through the Pike Market to all of the best spots (and you don’t even have to wait in any lines)!! Having a little taste of everything is definitely something my boyfriend and I can get behind and not waiting in line makes everything taste a little bit better. After the food tour, there’s still plenty to see in the market and I recommend checking out some of the art and crafts stands, comic book store, and there’s even a shoe museum.
Spent enough time at the market? Lastly, head to the Colombia tower for the best views of Seattle. Standing at over 930 feet this observation deck is almost 300 feet higher than the Space Needle. And boasts some of the most beautiful views in Seattle. Thus concluding your quick weekend in Seattle.
