Exploring New Mexico
New Mexico is commonly overlooked as a popular tourist destination but I had the pleasure of meeting my mom in Sante Fe for a long (much needed) relaxing weekend and it did not disappoint.
Day 1
Arrive mid night and take the Low Road to Taos stop by the local Walmart/Grocery Store for protein bars and snacks for the next few days. Stay at the El Monte Sagrado Hotel (https://www.elmontesagrado.com/) and grab dinner in town at the Adobe Bar (Make sure to try the Cowboy Budha Drink )
Day 2
Wake up around 5:30 and head out for your hot air balloon tour! I recommend Pueblo Hot Air balloon tour: https://www.puebloballoon.com/
The tour will go until about 11-1130 and then head to Taos Pueblo. $16 entrance free, but make sure you go on a walking tour provided by the town and try the fried bread!
Try out Taos Pizza Outback or Orlando’s New Mexican Food. Then head to Rio Grande Gorge Bridge for a spectacular vista! Take the High Road to Santa Fe and stop in the many obscure shops along the way and stop in the town of Chimayo.
Check in at the Old Santa Fe Inn and head to La Posada Luminaria Restaurant for dinner.
Day 3
Breakfast at Café Pasqual and then head over to Meow Wolf. Meow Wolf is an immersive and unique art experience filled with different art exhibits and interactive sets. Honestly, there are no words for this place but hopefully the pictures below can help give a little context.
Grab lunch after spending 1-2 hours here at either The Shred or Tiny’s. In the mood for some art? Head to downtown Sante Fe and check out the Georgia O’Keefe Museum and walk/shop around the plaza.
Day 4
Have a small snack/breakfast before heading to glassblowing at Liquid Light Glass (https://www.liquidlightglass.com/classes/). A little bit more of a pricey experience at $65 a person but definitely worth it. Blowing your own glass was one of the coolest things I’ve ever done on a trip and you walk away with a beautiful paperweight for your home. You get to customize your paper weight by picking the colors and if you want bubbles in it or not.
Afterwards have lunch at the Santacafe, check out the Palace of Governors. One of the he oldest government building in the USA. Also check out the Fenn-Nedra Matteucci Galleries. Head to the airport and fly home overlooking the beautiful New Mexico landscape. We visited during Thanksgiving and may not have seen it all but Sante Fe and Taos were definitely worth checking out for a long week! Have you ever been to New Mexico? Let me know!
